Paul and I went to Richmond this weekend to spend some time with my family. This is my sister Elissa’s boyfriend Travis about to take a ride in his dune buggy with their two dogs…
…and my 13-month-old nephew Ryder playing with water in the sink. (Yes, that’s a wine bottle waiting nearby. There was wine consumed this weekend.)
When we got home on Sunday, I made bacon-wrapped dates as an afternoon appetizer. Paul and I consumed them while watching a DVR’d episode of Breaking Bad.
(Guess what? This was the first package of bacon I’ve ever purchased in my life. I have never cooked bacon before. Crazy. A few days later I took the remaining bacon and cooked it on the stove top to eat with turkey burgers.)
When Paul noticed all the time I spend chopping onions, he decided to help me out — he surprised me by purchasing a Zyliss onion chopper. While I wouldn’t say it chops with quite the ease displayed in the video, it still shortens the time I would have spent dicing (I like my onions in small pieces no matter what I’m eating). And every piece is a uniform size. Pretty nifty:

Great video! I love the British accent, and I also really appreciate that the lady loading the dishwasher was wearing galoshes and an apron. Apparently, that’s a dirty job in her world.
I have to admit that I am lazy with bacon. If we’re going to do something like what you did, I’ll buy real bacon. I like real bacon bits in salad (especially broccoli salad), but I dislike the mess, so I buy pre-cooked real bacon bits and keep them in the fridge.
I’ve never seen pre-cooked bacon bits! I’m sure they’re just fine though (especially if you’re just looking for something quick to throw in a salad). :)
FYI – The bacon-wrapped dates were SUPER good and also easy to make. Paul and I devoured them.
