My 15-year-old nephew Devin took the train up from Richmond on Friday to spend the weekend with us. I met him at the Amtrak station in Alexandria on Friday afternoon, and when we got back to my place I immediately supplied him with a bowl of chili.
(I made CrockPot Turkey Pumpkin Chili. I’ve had a lot of success with it. Always a crowd-pleaser.)
Devin consumed two bowls right away, along with chips. When Paul got home, we walked to the movie theater at Chinatown to see Dark Knight Rises (Devin had another snack during the show), and afterward the three of us stopped at TangySweet for frozen yogurt. Once we returned home, Devin ate yet another bowl of chili. I’m glad I’m not feeding a teenager full time!
On Saturday we spent some time walking around Roosevelt Island…
…then stopped at Chipotle. The men ate burritos and I had a bowl with my usual: chicken, brown rice, green peppers and onions, medium salsa, lettuce, and guacamole.
Then we went to Georgetown to walk around the Georgetown University campus and check out the Exorcist stairs (Devin had never seen them, nor had I). Here’s Devin and I at the bottom of the staircase:
(Yes, we walked back up the stairs as well!)
We wrapped up our Saturday tour with a walk around the southwest DC neighborhood where Paul and I live. Then it was time to head to Nationals Park for their game against the New York Mets.
Unfortunately, the Nats lost the game. Third Eye Blind played a concert after the show, but the sound quality wasn’t as good as when we saw the Wallflowers last month. We stayed for 5-6 songs and then headed out early.
This morning, the three of us went to brunch at Station 4. Paul’s softball game was canceled due to rain. I suggested going to a museum for a few hours, but when we stopped at home after our meal the guys decided they’d rather hang out there for the next few hours instead. They watched part of a movie and the first few innings of the Nationals game (while I spent time in the kitchen chopping veggies for tonight’s dinner), then we left a little after 4pm to take Devin to the train station.
Thanks for staying with us, D!

Devin had a great time with you guys this past weekend!! He has also reminded me that we haven’t been to DC for a visit since early last December! I need to fix that soon :)
You guys haven’t visited since BEFORE December! Paul and I moved in together on Dec 4, so it was definitely before that. (Actually, per my Google Calendar which I update religiously, you guys haven’t visited since the weekend of Shannon’s birthday party – Nov 4-6). NINE MONTHS!!!!
