Hurricane Sandy

Due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy, Paul and I are working from home today. He can access his work desktop from our home system and (since I was thinking ahead when I heard reports of the upcoming storm) I brought my work laptop home with me on Friday.

We didn’t have a choice whether to work from home or not (although I certainly didn’t mind; I would love to work from home every day); both of our workplaces are closed and the DC Metro has shut down.

I don’t think we have to worry about losing power, as our building is served by underground power lines. A friend of mine has lived in this building for 7-8 years and she said they’ve never lost power during the time she’s lived here. However, we do have a flashlight handy, and I filled up three large pots of water (in addition to what we already have in the fridge), just in case.

I took advantage of being at home to fill the CrockPot with ingredients for Indian Butter Chicken. I’m already looking forward to dinner!

  1. Underground power lines = best idea ever. We need more of those out West. ;) I can’t tell you how many wildfires have been started from a felled power line in a storm. Smart thinking ahead just in case too!

P.S. Found your blog via Hollywood Housewife! Looking forward to reviewing your healthy recipes!

    • I had honestly never thought about/paid attention to underground power lines until I moved into my current apartment building. They’re pretty awesome! I’d like to see the stats about how often people with underground power lines have a disruption in power compared to typical power lines. I know underground is more expensive to set up, but they definitely make sense in cities since there are so many households living close together.
