I am a minimalist. I choose to live gluten- and (refined) sugar-free because I have hypothyroidism.
My name is Zan. I live with my boyfriend Paul in the southwest quadrant of Washington, DC.
Although this website is relatively new (March 2012), I’ve been blogging for a long time (I started my first blog in September 2002). I wanted to create a new web presence so I could focus on my biggest personal interests — living healthy, eating healthy, and minimalism — without having to work around everything I’ve written in the past.
I’m going by the shortened version of my name because my real name is uncommon and it’s currently the #1 result if you search for it using Google. I decided that I’d like to be a little less easy to find.
Paul is not gluten or sugar free, but he has adopted healthy habits (like giving up soda and artificial sweeteners), and he never complains about the lack of gluten or sugar when I make dinner. He is unfailingly supportive.

Why I am Gluten and Sugar Free
Zan the food blogger – I love it. :-)
Quite a departure, huh? I got tired of talking about dating and random musings on my personal life. :)
It’s all Denis’ fault that I found you. I’ve already grazed through 4 of the documentaries on your recent post and after reading your About Me page I wanted to comment that I too am Gluten Free due to a recent Celiac diagnosis AND I’m ‘technically’ hypothyroid since I don’t have a thyroid anymore, but I’m chemically induced to be hyper. It’s complicated. :-) I love all things food and I’m looking forward to exploring your site. Thanks a lot, Denise.
Hi Zan! I found you via Denise, so it’s all her fault. I just spent my entire Sunday (ok, like a quarter of it) watching a few of the documentaries from your list. Thank you for that. My hiney? It’s not so pleased I was sitting on it so much. My main purpose of the comment is to say I’m also gluten free due to a recent Celiac diagnosis AND I’m technically hypo because I no longer have a thyroid, but I’m medically kept in a hyper state to suppress any chance of cancer recurrence. WEEEE! Anyway…Hi.
And hello to you, too! It’s always great to find similarities with other bloggers. :)
